Following the success of
2021, the program "Million green trees - For a green Vietnam" in
2022, jointly organized by the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central
Committee and Suntory PepsiCo Vietnam Beverage Co., Ltd. towards the goal of
raising awareness of union members, youth and people about the role of forests,
forest protection, water resource protection, environmental protection issues,
response to climate change and community cohesion. The program contributes to
the successful implementation of the Government's Project on planting 1 billion
trees and the goal of planting 100 million new trees set by the Central Youth
Union, contributing to the implementation of the mission and commitment of
Suntory PepsiCo Vietnam in the action program for sustainable development in
the period of 2021-2025. In 2022, the program plans to plant 50,000 new trees
in watershed forests (about 40 hectares) in Dak Lak and Dak Nong and at the
same time, from the campaign to plant 10,000 more trees.
On June 8, 2022 at the Hall of March 26 (62 Ba Trieu, Hoan Kiem, Hanoi), the Central Committee of Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and Suntory PepsiCo Vietnam Beverage Co., Ltd held a press conference to launch the program "Million green trees - For a green Vietnam" in 2022. Attending were representatives of leaders of central agencies, departments and unions; Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee; Suntory PepsiCo Vietnam Beverage Company Limited; press agencies, central and local radio and television stations.
Speaking at the press conference, comrade Bui Quang Huy, alternate member of the Party Central Committee, Standing Secretary of the Central Committee of the Union, said: "This meaningful program not only contributes to the youth of Vietnam. In the process of restoring watershed forests, developing trees, protecting the environment, and responding to climate change, through which, it will contribute to propaganda, education, raising awareness and responsibility of union members and youth. about the role and importance of trees and forests, and the urgency of planting and protecting forests, and protecting natural resources such as land, water, and air.

A
special feature of the program is that when participating in the program, youth
union members and youth have the opportunity to contribute trees to plant
forests by their own specific activities such as: implementing "Green
Commitment", " Green Action", virtual tree planting, running,
walking are all recognized by the Organizing Committee and converted into
corresponding green trees to contribute to the program. The Organizing
Committee has determined that 60,000 plants in 2022 are all contributed by the
specific activities of the union members and young people participating.

In
addition to the main activity of planting watershed forests, the program
organizes companion activities to propagate and spread widely in the community
specific actions to contribute to environmental protection and response to
climate change. after, specifically as follows:
1. Campaign
"Green Commitment" and promote union members and youth to take
"Green Action"
The Organization
Committee has implemented the
campaign "Green Commitment" on website trieucaysinh.doanthanhnien.vn
and encouraged union members and young people to jointly implement "Green
Action".
Youth union members and young people
implement the "Green Commitment" by accessing the website trieucaysinh.doanthanhnien.vn,
clicking the button "REGISTER FOR GREEN COMMITMENT" to register to
perform specific actions, and at the same time, participate in the Minigame "Plan
virtual trees - Collect real trees"; Accordingly, union members and youth
will take the following steps:
[1] Treatment
before sowing, tilling, fertilizing, sowing and watering. After 1.5 hours the
seeds will germinate.
[2] After the
plant sprouts, each seedling has to go through 5 stages to develop into an
adult plant. Each stage corresponds to 72 hours. Players must water plants at
least 12 hours/time, distribute vegetation at least 36 hours/time and fertilize
at least 72 hours (1 phase)/time. If the player does not water, fertilize, and
clear the vegetation, the plant will grow poorly or die.
[3] After 15
days, the plant will mature. Players click on the [CONTRIBUTION] button to
contribute trees to the reforestation program.
The first 10,000
"Green Actions" will correspond to 10,000 trees provided by the
Organization Committee to plant and take care of in the first year.
2. "Million green trees" photo and video clip contest
For
the photo contest: Each participating individual or group submits a picture
showing their participation in activities of environmental protection and response
to climate change to the contest in the Photo Contest section on website
trieucayxanh.doanthannien.vn. A number of green actions were launched under
themes, such as building green living space, recycling, planting trees, etc.,
along with beautiful moments of Vietnam's nature.
For the video clip contest: Each
participating individual or group submits a video clip recording creative
activities and solutions to save and protect water resources in the Video clip
contest section on website trieucaysinh.doanthanhnien.vn.
Through the photo and video clip
contest, it contributes to creating motivation, spreading the message and
meaning of the program to union members, youth and people. From there, creating
a premise to promote practical and effective green actions, contributing to
gradually changing awareness and creating green living habits in daily life.
3. Online running and walking tournament “Million green
trees - For a
green Vietnam"
Organize an online running and
walking tournament "Million green trees - For a green Vietnam" to
contribute to improving the health of union members, youth and program
participants. In addition, continue to promote and spread the meaning of the
program and mobilize organizations, businesses and individuals to participate
in the campaign.
Athletes register to
participate in running and walking tournaments online on website
trieucaysinh.doanthanhnien.vn, install Strava application on mobile devices and
connect website accounts. Athletes use the Strava app to record running and
walking results.
Each athlete participates in
the tournament by choosing the respective distance categories, with the first
10km athletes will contribute 05 new trees. At the end of the tournament,
individuals can donate up to 20 trees planted at the end of the program.
The organizers set a goal of
mobilizing at least 31,000 new trees through online jogging and walking
tournaments to plant in watershed forests in Dak Lak and Dak Nong.
4.
Sightseeing activities and experiences
As
part of the series of activities at the Program Closing Ceremony, activities to
visit, experience and learn about the primeval forest ecosystem, biodiversity,
characteristics and uniqueness that need to be protected, along with other
advantages and disadvantages. Advantages and disadvantages of nature
conservation in the National Park. Besides, there are typical experience
activities of the Central Highlands and many other interesting activities.
The
activity takes place with the participation of invited delegates from the
Central Youth Union, leaders of local departments and agencies, representatives
of SPVB and individuals who won the First Prize of the "Million green
tree" photo and video clip contest and Running and walking tournament "Million
green trees - For a green Vietnam".
5. Scientific
report:
Through the program
implementation results; related studies and field surveys, assessment of
afforestation results in Quang Nam, Quang Ngai; Field survey, soil and climate
assessment in Dak Lak, Dak Nong. The Program Organizing Committee and young
scientists will conduct a scientific report on the value of new plants in the
project "Million green trees - For a green Vietnam" for the
biosphere, biomass and groundwater in the watershed forests. As a basis for
evaluating the initial results of the afforestation project in 2021 in Quang
Nam and Quang Ngai provinces, in addition, it will assess the current status of
land and site in the project area expected to be planted in 2022 in Dak Nong
and Dak Lak provinces; implementing the program in the following years as well
as providing the community and interested people with scientific information
about the specific impacts of tree planting on natural resources and the
environment.
