Suntory PepsiCo Vietnam's outstanding achievements in 2018


In November, SPVB was honored in the top 3 Sustainable Businesses in Vietnam 2018 by the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI). This result was a co-assessment from VCCI, the Ministry of Labor – Invalids – Social Affairs, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor based on 4 main criteria: corporate management and strategy, sustainability-oriented business activities, sustainability-oriented environment activities, and sustainability-oriented social activities and employee welfare. This the third time in a row SPVB made it to the list of most sustainable businesses in Vietnam.

Living up to its motto “In Vietnam – For Vietnam – With Vietnam”, SPVB has been pushing beyond the limits to outperform itself of the previous yearsAs for corporate management and strategy, SPVB has set out its ambition to become a future-proof organization, which is in good position to cope up with any challenges coming its way, in line with vision of “Growing for Good” and the corporate values of “Yatte Minahare” and “Giving back to society” of Suntory group. All of these help laying a strong foundation for forming the sustainability-oriented corporate management and strategy. 

Functioning under a well-shaped management and strategy platform, SPVB has achieved encouraging outcomes for its efforts in conducting sustainability-oriented business and environment activities. From 2006 to 2018, we reduced the amount of water usage per product liter by 70.2%, energy consumed per product unit by 42%, industrial waste per product unit by 34%. Most importantly, 8,000 tons of plastic were saved in production activities to reduce plastic waste over the same period. As for tax compliance, the General Department of Taxation of Vietnam listed SPVB amongst the top 100 Largest Corporate Income Taxpayers in Vietnam in 2016 and 2017. In Vietnam Report’s research published this November, SPVB found its mention amongst the top 3 Most Trustworthy Beverage Companies in Vietnam in 2018 in terms of financial performance, customer satisfaction and corporate’s positive information on the media. During the meeting with Prime Minister of Vietnam Nguyen Xuan Phuc in October, the senior leadership delegation from SBFA, PepsiCo and SPVB expressed their commitment to the long-term investment and sustainable development in Vietnam. The PM highly appreciated our contribution to creating a sustainable supply chain, which enables growing trade cooperation and promotion. This opens up the opportunities for living standard improvement of hundreds of local farmers and contributing to the overall community development.

As for sustainability-oriented social activities and employee welfare, we have organized various social activities aiming at cultivating a sense of community responsibility in the participants, especially the youth of Vietnam. Some of our most outstanding programs include the “Mizuiku – I love clean water”; “Dynamic: Conquering the Entrepreneurship Dream; “Green Summer” student voluntary campaign, etc. As a compliment for these endeavours, in December, SPVB received two honours, which are the Certificate of Merit from the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and the AmCham CSR Award 2018 from the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) for its positive contributions to the community. 

SPVB also received appreciations for its significant contribution to the overall capacity building of Vietnam. As per the Anphabe’s survey result published in March 2018, SPVB was amongst the top 5 Best Places to Work in Vietnam 2017 in its business category. In October, the corporate also won the Asia Human Resources Development Awards 2018 by the HRD Congress (Malaysia) in the “Contribution to Society” category. Overcoming many challenges, SPVB is in a very good shape and all set to achieve new heights in the coming new year.
