Suntory PepsiCo and its partners committed to sustainable development for a better Vietnam

On April 11, 2023, at Intercontinental Saigon Hotel, Suntory PepsiCo Vietnam Beverage Co., Ltd (Suntory PepsiCo) organized "Partner for Sustainable Growth" workshop with participation of 70 strategic partners of the company in Vietnam. At the workshop, Suntory PepsiCo and its partners committed to elevating cooperation relationship by building sustainability initiatives and implementation roadmaps for the commitment in the coming time for a better Vietnam.




Speaking at the workshop, Mr. Jahanzeb Khan, CEO and General Director of Suntory PepsiCo shared the company's achievement in the past and its strategy in the next 5 years. To implement this strategy, the company has been working with its partners to set goals, deeper strategic collaboration and build a specific roadmap for sustainable development together in the future. Mr. Jahanzeb Khan said that the company's success in Vietnam is not only built from within but also has a great contribution from its partners. He also emphasized the role and responsibility of the company and its partners in solving environmental problems, innovative thinking and aiming toward the vision “Growing for Good” to serve Vietnamese customers. These are key factors that make Suntory PepsiCo sustain its leading position in the beverage market for many years and help raise the bar for development together with partners in the future.




Regard to supply chain of the company, Suntory PepsiCo will focus on four elements including: Innovation enhancement to provide the best products to consumers, supply chain integration to simplify the process and effective risk management in production, sustainability development to create positive impacts for society, trust collaboration towards deeper cooperative relationship. The company hopes that its partners will join forces stronger and deeper in creating initiatives to build a solid business system and common values ​​with a vision of growing for good. Therefore, for suppliers, Suntory PepsiCo aims to cooperate with partners who already have policies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions for indirect production facilities (Scope 3) in their value chain, and at the same time support and commit to sustainable values. 


To recognize contribution and initiatives of the partners to the company's business achievements and overall sustainable development, Suntory PepsiCo awarded medals to the strategic partners, who have cooperated and constantly made efforts on the company’s goal delivery, namely the Innovation award for Hon Chuan Vietnam, the CSR and Sustainability award for Krones, the Quality Excellence award for Srithai Vietnam Company, the Value Driver award for Gemadept Logistics One Member, the Agility& Resilience award for YCH-PROTRADE company, the award that represents Yatte Minahare spirit of “dream big, dare to take on challenges and never give up” for Sidel Blowing and Services company.




After nearly 3 decades of development in Vietnam, Suntory PepsiCo is now the leading beverage company with 5 plants across the country, providing jobs for nearly 3,000 direct employees and thousands of indirect employees. In the past 6 years, the company has always been in the top 100 highest tax player and in top 100 sustainability companies ranked by VCCI. In 2021, Suntory PepsiCo was in the list of 30 innovative enterprises ranked by the National Innovation Center under the Ministry of Planning and Investment and the German Organization for International Cooperation.


In recent years, the company and its strategic partners have launched many initiatives such as applying new technologies, digital transformation in business activities and human resource management to improve labor efficiency and production, digital integrated systems and partner performance improvement activities to enhance competitiveness, environmental friendly packaging initiatives, saving materials and energy to protect the environment and ensure the highest quality products with added value to consumers etc. In April 2021, first time ever, the company launched Pepsi rPET packing made from 100% recycled plastic (exclude label and cap) in Vietnam market. Following the success of rPET launching, the company also launched many light weight initiatives to reduce packaging material such as packaging of Olong TEA+, Twister and Lipton or Aquafina bottle made in Vietnam is the lightest Aquafina bottle in the world… In July 2022, Suntory PepsiCo signed a 5-year strategic cooperation agreement with Duy Tan Recycled Plastic Company on supplying recycled plastic packaging.

In addition, Suntory PepsiCo commits to implement 3R (Reduce – Reuse - Recycle) in its production and business activities in Vietnam. In 2021, with reducing plastic bottle and packaging initiatives from partners, the company reduced more than 1,100 tons of plastic and saved 3,470 tons of plastic in production in 2022, making an important contribution to reducing plastic waste.


For the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions into the environment, the company is aiming to increase the use of renewable energy to replace fossil energy such as using biofuel for steam production to replace DO oil fuel, installing rooftop solar power systems at all factories, etc.
For healthier innovation, Suntory PepsiCo sets its own goals for the roadmap to reduce sugar, calories and add vitamins or other nutrients in the product formula.

Besides environment protection in operation, the company has also been implementing many activities to protect the environment together with the community. Proud of being a founding member of PRO Vietnam, Suntory PepsiCo commits to join hands to make Vietnam green - clean - beautiful by promoting the circular economy model. "Mizuiku - I love clean water" program has benefited more than 2.6 million people and students and raise awareness of water resources protection from 2015, "Million Green Trees - For a Green Vietnam” program committed to plant millions of trees in watershed forests in Vietnam within 5 years from 2021 to 2025, or other CSR and environmental protection programs such as “Beach clean-up” program and “Millions of meals” program, and Helping Hands activities etc.
