"Mizuiku - I love clean water" An educational program on water protection from Japan continues its journey in Vietnam with many meaningful impacts for the community.

On 31/03/2021 in Quang Nam province, Suntory Holdings Ltd. (Japan) and Suntory PepsiCo Vietnam Beverage in collaboration with the Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneer Organization, Vietnam National Union of Students and the Ministry of Education and Training held the opening ceremony of "Mizuiku – I love clean water” 2021.

"Mizuiku" is an educational program for nature and water implemented by Suntory Group in Japan since 2004. Starting in 2015, the program "Mizuiku - I love clean water" was piloted in Vietnam with the desire to create meaningful impacts on the community. 2021 marks the 7th year of Mizuiku in Vietnam with nearly 70 water facilities and toilets constructed in the participating schools. Nearly 38,000 students participated in 1,900 Mizuiku classes conducted by 1,300 teachers and volunteers.

Beside constructing water facilities and conducting water education classes, in 2020, the program also built 7 eco-toilets from plastic bottles in Vietnam for the first time, which recycles around 29,000 plastic bottles.  Nearly 4,000 students in Thai Nguyen and Bac Ninh provinces are benefited from these hygiene and environment-friendly toilets. In terms of economy, this project also saves around 25% of the cost, compared with conventional bricks. Therefore, it is both environment-friendly and economic.

In 2021, the program will also cooperate with the Vietnam Women's Union to introduce “Mizuiku - I love clean water” class to its members. Many initiatives in these classes will help them to apply in water protection at their households and inspire their children. In addition, the program continues to conduct Mizuiku classes for students and Green Summer volunteers through livestream and e-learning activities on the program's website.

On this launching occasion, the Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneer Organization in coordination with Suntory PepsiCo Vietnam Beverage announced the contest "Build playgrounds together with Mizuiku”. Accordingly, the contest will be held for students in grades 1 - 9, to co-create the idea of designing a playground from recycled materials used. In which, the three best entries will be built by the organizers of the reality, helping to realize the Mizuiku playground of their dreams, and at the same time educating students about recycling waste and protecting the environment for a green future. In addition, the excellent teams will have the opportunity to participate in the Mizuiku class and experience a visit to the Suntory PepsiCo plant, for students to learn the reality of the production process and initiatives to save clean water the company has applied now.
